Happy 72nd birthday to the E Street Band's Charlie Giordano, who was... ahem... a key participant in The Bruce Springsteen Center For American Music's Chuck Berry at 100 symposium/concert this past Saturday. We'll soon have much more to share at Letters To You about Saturday's event overall, but for now, on Charlie's special day, we want to focus first on how well he provided all of those tasty Johnnie-Johnson-style piano parts in the all-Chuck-Berry-songs concert that closed the daylong event, as seen in the photo above.

Earlier in the day, as seen below, Charlie also spoke knowledgeably about why Chuck Berry's music remains such a great, important, and influential part of American culture. He did so from the unique perspective of being one of the few musicians present on Saturday who've gotten to perform onstage with both Chuck Berry and Bruce Springsteen over the years. What made Charlie's insights so extra-special was that he spoke from both his head and his heart about those experiences.

Happy Birthday, Charlie, and best wishes for many more happy birthdays to come. Keep a-rockin' that piano (and that Hammond organ, accordion, etc., too.) Hail, hail rock and roll, and hail, hail Charlie Giordano!
