Bruce's Labor Day Weekend 2026 surprises: one's VERY big, exciting news, & one... well, not so much

On Friday, Bruce Springsteen kicked off Labor Day Weekend 2026 with a very pleasant surprise indeed. The trailer for Land of Hope & Dreams Tour: Philadelphia Freedom Cut dropped, and it appears to be a full-length, professionally filmed/recorded version of the final night for Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band's 2026 Land of Hope & Dreams American Tour:
As per the trailer itself, the film will begin streaming this coming Wednesday, September 9. No further details, in regards to specifically when/where/how the film can be streamed, who directed/edited it, etc. is officially available at this time. The official response to our inquiry has been as follows: "We'll have full information coming on the morning of September 9th." So, as has been advised previously, stay hard, stay hungry, stay alive, stay involved, and stay tuned...
The Friday Labor Day Weekend kickoff also was "First Friday" for nugs.net 's recently resumed Live Archives monthly-release series. This month's release is Stockholm, July 2, 1988, performed and recorded the day before the Live Archives series' previously released Stockholm Stadion, Sweden 1988:
In our ever-so-humble opinion, an officially released recording of the July 2, 1988 concert is pretty much for completists only. If you already own and/or can stream the previously released July 3, 1988 show, you'll hear every song performed the day before, in the exact same order, plus the inclusion of four more songs not performed on July 2 ("Roulette," "Downbound Train," "Can't Help Falling in Love," and "Quarter to Three.") True, there are a few interesting and sometimes downright beautiful variations to be found in certain July 2 song performances, such as the snippets of lines from Stevie Van Zandt's/Southside Johnny's "I Don't Want To Go Home" and Little Willie John's "My Love Is" inserted into that show's "Twist and Shout." (The July 2 horns on "Chimes of Freedom" seem to have been dropped completely by the very next night, and in retrospect it seems to have been a smart move, as well.) Jon Altschiller & Co.'s mixing variations also offer a few extra well-deserved spotlights on Clarence Clemons, Danny Federici, and Patti Scialfa, among others, but still... While our own completist tendencies are certainly happy to eventually have as many professionally recorded shows available to us as possible, we're also reminded of a rather astute observation on prioritization by our friend Mike Saunders, towards the end of our recently recorded conversation about the 1981 European tour (from which to date only two shows have been released in the Live Archives series, compared to the seven 1988 shows now available:) "The audience for that stuff is getting older, just like Bruce and the band... If you don't release it soon, the people that are most likely to buy it won't be around."
In any case, even if its release isn't quite as big a deal as some others' would (and eventually, we hope, will) be, Stockholm, July 2, 1988 is still a fine show/recording in and of itself, and still a welcome addition to the ever-expanding library of officially released Springsteen concert recordings, as well.
